The above picture is genius. It tells it all. The opportunist is pragmatic. He/she doesn’t need to argue or agree with anybody – just sees a need for action.

I believe you are familiar with the half-full or half-empty glass of water story. If you don’t, no problem let me tell you. It goes like this, there are three different personality types namely; the optimist, the pessimist and the realist. Upon seeing a half-filled glass of water, the pessimist as the name suggests is negative about the situation. The pessimist sees the glass as half-empty. An optimist is the positive thinking guy. The optimist sees the glass as half-full. A realist sees the glass as it is exactly – simply a glass neither half-full nor half-empty. The realist just sees a glass with water in it.

Now meet the fresh kid on the block – the opportunist. Upon seeing the glass with water, he simply satisfies his thirst by drinking the water in the glass. It doesn’t really matter whether the glass is half-empty or half-full. The opportunist is a pragmatic realist. A glass of water is simply a glass of water that needs to be drank.

A pessimist whines all day about the negativities around him/her without taking any action to turn it around. An optimist sees the positives and gets really excited and inspired. It doesn’t mean he/she will take any positive action. An opportunist – the realist –  sees the situation as it is but also takes positive steps that will create results to turn the situation around for the better.

Which one would you rather be – an optimist, a pessimist, a realist or an opportunist.
